Bangladesh Police awarding Jharna Begum for her bravery and humanity


Jharna Begum, a self-motivated courageous house wife of Shalbagan area in Rajshahi Metropolitan has been awarded by Bangladesh Police due to her outstanding act of bravery and humanitarian endeavor. She made a remarkable instance of citizen’s responsibility by rescuing a police man who was attacked and brutally injured by the miscreants on April 1, 2013.

During the political upheaval on the said date, sub-inspector Jahangir Alam of Boalia Police Station, RMP while on duty, was mercilessly beaten up by unruly hooligan in Rajshahi’s Shalbagan area and was lying unconscious on the street. Hearing cracking sounds of cocktails and bombs, Jharna Begum who resides nearby to the place of occurrence came out of her residence and watching severely injured Jahangir Alam in a pool of blood, took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on an auto-rickshaw and admitted him there. Despite throwing her life at risk, Jharna Begum played such a philanthropic and valiant role that helped saving a police personnel’s life at that time.

In recognition of her bravery and to praise her effort, Inspector General of Police Hassan Mahmud Khandaker, On behalf of Bangladesh Police, honored Jharna Begum with a crest and certificate on an occasion held at Police Headquarters on April 17. He eulogized her courageous and inspiring acts and called upon all to stand by the side of law enforcing agency.
